That’s a Wrap for 2025:

Key Moments and Takeaways from This Year's Conference

Published: Thursday 28 November 2025

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s ASA Conference. It was an energising few days that brought our community together in ways that genuinely reflected our theme — exploring how archives can be places of connection that build communities. Based on the feedback already coming in, it’s clear the conference became exactly that: a space where people connected, shared, learned, and felt welcomed.

Key Takeaways / Conference Impact
  • A space where people connected, shared, learned, and felt welcomed.
  • Truly inspirational keynote setting the tone for the program.
  • Encouraged attendees to think critically, reflect on their work, and reaffirm their passion for the profession.

Attendees described the conference as “insightful,” “thought-provoking,” and “a great learning opportunity.” Many highlighted the calibre of the sessions and presenters, with comments such as:

"Very impressive content, particularly the opening keynote speaker.”
“The presenters at all of the sessions I attended were exceptional.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the conference… it was inspiring.”

The First-Time Attendee Mentor Program was also a standout, with one attendee writing:

“The option of being linked with a mentor was both an incentive to attend and a blessing… it makes the initial walk-up so much easier.”

Gailynn Bopp’s keynote resonated deeply, described as “truly inspirational” and “a highlight”, setting a tone that carried through the entire program. Many people shared how the conference encouraged them to think critically, reflect on their work, and reaffirm their passion for the profession. One attendee captured it beautifully:

“It’s rare that a conference theme ends up being the feeling you come away with — but in this case it was spot on… confident but relaxed, welcoming and organised.”

We’ve also received some thoughtful, constructive feedback which we will be taking on board as we begin planning for our 2027 Conference. This year’s event was delivered during a particularly challenging period for the office team, who were managing a major system migration and working short-staffed at the same time. We know that some information didn’t go out as early as we would have preferred, and we genuinely appreciate your patience and understanding. The good news is that we now have a generous lead-up to 2027, giving us the space to plan even more effectively.

A special thank you also goes to our Conference Committee and Program Committee for their expertise, time and guidance throughout the planning process. Your work shaped the program and helped us deliver an event the community clearly valued. We also extend our thanks to the Council members who stepped in during the conference to support the team on the ground — your help made a real difference.

Most importantly, thank you to every presenter, attendee, volunteer, and supporter who contributed to such a positive, engaging, and community-building conference. We’re grateful for the enthusiasm and care you brought to the event — and we can’t wait to build on this momentum in the years ahead.
