5:00 PM - 6:30 PM ONLINE / PARKES Organised by the National Archives of Australia and presented by the Australian Society of Archivists, A Life in Archives: Honouring the Legacy of Dr Peter Orlovich recognises the outstanding career and contributions of Dr Peter Orlovich, a pioneering figure in Australian archival education and practice. Dr Orlovich established Australia’s first graduate training course for archivists at the University of New South Wales and made significant contributions to archival training, community archives, and local history throughout his career.

This self-directed online course on Appraisal is one of six courses in the Keeping Archives online learning course suite. Inspired by the Australian Society of Archivists's flagship textbook "Keeping Archives", these courses are designed to provide a solid introduction to archives and recordkeeping knowledge.

Appraisal is one of six courses in the Keeping Archives online learning course suite. Inspired by the Australian Society of Archivists's flagship textbook Keeping Archives, these courses are designed to provide a solid introduction to archives and recordkeeping knowledge.

With a duration of approximately 90 minutes, Appraisal includes exclusive video content, interactive quiz elements and a custom certificate delivered on completion.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Explain what appraisal is
  • Describe the importance of understanding context
  • Describe methods for analysing functions, activities and work processes
  • Identify requirements for records
  • Describe the distinction between 'records' and 'archives'
  • Explain the uses for the results of appraisal
  • Define disposal and name the main elements of this activity.
