5:00 PM - 6:30 PM ONLINE / PARKES Organised by the National Archives of Australia and presented by the Australian Society of Archivists, A Life in Archives: Honouring the Legacy of Dr Peter Orlovich recognises the outstanding career and contributions of Dr Peter Orlovich, a pioneering figure in Australian archival education and practice. Dr Orlovich established Australia’s first graduate training course for archivists at the University of New South Wales and made significant contributions to archival training, community archives, and local history throughout his career.

Kerry Gordon, Director of Recordkeeping Innovation Pty Ltd, has worked as a consultant in the archives and records management sector since 1986. She has designed and implemented improved information governance and records systems in organisations across education, health, finance, mining and manufacturing, government and industry associations. Dr Mike Jones is an award-winning archivist, historian, and collections consultant based in Melbourne, Australia.

For more than fifteen years Mike has collaborated with GLAM sector institutions (galleries, libraries, archives, and museums) and heritage organisations of all sizes, and with governments, community organisations (including First Nations communities), academics, businesses, and families on archival, collections and public history projects.

He has helped clients establish archival programs and get control of their records and histories; provided advice on the development and implementation of new approaches to cataloguing; prepared significance assessments, reports, and recommendations to support strategic planning and organisational capability development activities; and provided training and workshops.

Mike’s widely-cited publications—from consultant’s reports and blog posts to book chapters and a full length monograph on museum archives—and extensive national and international experience as a presenter and keynote speaker demonstrate his sector profile, and his reputation as a clear and effective communicator.

Barbara Reed has been a consultant in the fields of records, archives and information management since 1985. She is active in professional arenas, including the teaching and training environments. She has played a major role in the development of Australian and International standards for records management, digitisation, recordkeeping metadata and others.

Offering a range of services, specific archival projects have varied from strategic approaches for large scale digitisation to working on personal archives for individuals, families, communities and organisations. Experience ranges from establishing archival control systems, using a variety of specialised archives software or working from basic spreadsheets, tailored solutions are designed to suit specific needs.

She is able to provide advice on preventative preservation and long term sustainability including dissemination of information about specific archives (as appropriate). Dr Nicholas A. Sparks, BA (Hons) M.LIS (Librarianship), PhD (Cantab), ASA Recognised Professional (ASARP).

I am a cultural heritage consultant, historian and valuer with more than 20 years of experience in libraries, archives, universities, and cultural institutions. I hold a BA(Hons) from the University of Melbourne, and PhD from the University of Cambridge, with further degrees and experience recognised by Australia's peak bodies for librarians, archivists and record-keepers ALIA, ASA, and RIMPA.

I am also an Associate Member of the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA) for expertise in appraising and valuing manuscripts, rare books, and archives.

Services include authentication, appraisal and valuation, collection assessments, and collection management. I also assist with acquisition, transfer and loan agreements, preparing Cultural Gifts Program application submissions, and the development of policies, procedures, and collection governance frameworks.
