Sharman Awards

Australian Society of Archivists
Sharman Award

In 2000 the Society introduced this annual award in honour of Robert Charles (Bob) Sharman, colleague, foundation member and long serving supporter of the Society, in recognition of his significant contribution to the Australian Society of Archivists and the archival cause generally in Australia. The rules governing the award may be found here.

The Award is in the form of either direct financial assistance or other aid for selected members of the Australian Society of Archivists to attend the annual Conference of the Society. Such attendees will be selected from those members of the Society who for reasons of cost would be precluded from attending the Conference.

Eligibility for a Sharman Award

  • Any current personal financial member of the Society of two (2) or more years standing may apply. Representatives of Institutional members are not eligible for the Award.
  • Applicants must not be in receipt of any other financial support to attend the conference, whether from an employer or external source.
  • Applicants must be able to attend the entire conference and the AGM of the Society, and must agree to submit a report for publication in the October edition of the Bulletin.
  • A member is not eligible to receive the award more than once.

Call for applications

The Award will be in the form of financial assistance towards the cost of attending the August 2008 ASA Conference in Perth (WA), and will consist of the conference registration fee and, where appropriate, a contribution towards airfares or other travel costs to and from the conference.
