
Appraisal is an intellectually challenging activity which determines the shape, colour and texture of personal and collective experiences. At the heart of appraisal are the decisions ‘what to keep’ and ‘what not to keep’. How archivists make these decisions is the subject of much professional debate, discourse and controversy. This residential school provides professional archivists and recordkeepers with a unique opportunity to dissect and reappraise contemporary archival appraisal in Australia. Developed and delivered by thought leaders and practitioners specialising in appraisal this residential seeks to provide a challenging learning experience that encompasses appraisal theory, standards and practices within Australasia. To provide a common practical basis a series of case studies and activities will be used to explore issues and develop practical responses to those issues.

The cost of the residential school is anticipated to be $3300 including GST, per participant. This includes all meals, accommodation and study materials. A discounted price and priority will be offered to professional members of the ASA.
