Graduates of accredited courses may, according to the Society's Rule 4.2.a.iii, apply for professional membership status after one year's experience. This rule states that:
Professional membership shall be open to any person who is or has been an archivist employed in a recognised archives institution who -
(iii) being a holder of a qualification in archives administration accredited by the ASA, or such other qualification as may be deemed by the Council to be the equivalent thereof, has been so employed for one year
