ASA Accredited Records and Archives Courses

Australian Society of Archivists Course Accreditation Program

Course accreditation is an essential part of the framework for professional membership of the ASA. For information about the procedures and processes involved, visit our course accreditation page.

Graduates of accredited courses may, according to the Society's Rule 4.2.a.iii, apply for professional membership status after one year's experience. This rule states that:

Professional membership shall be open to any person who is or has been an archivist employed in a recognised archives institution who -

(iii) being a holder of a qualification in archives administration accredited by the ASA, or such other qualification as may be deemed by the Council to be the equivalent thereof, has been so employed for one year

Courses accredited by the Australian Society of Archivists

Curtin University of Technology

The following courses are accredited by the ASA for a period of five years from 1 January 2008:


  • Bachelor of Arts (Librarianship and Corporate Information Management)
  • Graduate Diploma (Records Management and Archives)
  • Master of Information Management – Records Management and Archives stream
Monash University

The following courses are fully recognised by the ASA for a period of five years from 1 January 1998:

  • The Monash University Masters in Information Management/Masters in Information Management Systems (with a recordkeeping specialisation) and Graduate Diploma in Information Management/Graduate Diploma in Information Management Systems (recordkeeping specialisation)
  • The Monash University Bachelor of Information Management/Bachelor of Information Management and Systems (Honours) with a recordkeeping specialisation), and
  • The Monash University Bachelor of Information Management/Bachelor of Information Management and Systems (with a recordkeeping specialisation).
Edith Cowan University

The following courses are fully recognised by the ASA for a period of five years from 1 January 1999:

  • The Edith Cowan University Graduate Diploma of Science (Archives and Records), and
  • The Edith Cowan University Records Management Minor.
RMIT University

The following course is fully recognised by the ASA for a period of five years from 1 January 2001:

  • The RMIT University Graduate Diploma in Information Management (Archives and Records).
