On behalf the Council of the Australian Society of Archivists and the Conference Organising Committee, I warmly invite you to register your attendance for the 27th Annual National Conference of the Australian Society of Archivists to be held in Melbourne - one of the “World’s Most Liveable Cities”, from the 12 - 17 October 2010.
The conference theme this year is Future Proof: Resilient Archives 2020 and Beyond.
The Conference Program Committee has developed an exciting and challenging program that will showcase how resilient archives and archivists can be when grappling with ever increasing quantities and variant forms of records, questions surrounding professional principles, practical methodologies, and the provision of access to archival collections continue to engage our attention.
The conference will examine generational change in archives and the wider social context and consider how the archives profession might respond to challenges and opportunities on offer. It will explore how archivists and archives services can achieve sufficient flexibility and resilience to thrive in the future, and examine implications of changes to traditional understandings of what an archive is and does. Measuring the worth of archives and their contribution to social capital will also be a major theme.
The conference will interest everyone involved in the collection and management of archives; in public and private organisations; and the wider community who benefit from the archives kept and maintained.
Keep an eye out for future updates on the website and I look forward to seeing you in Melbourne in October 2010.
